Pulp Fiction stars Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson to reunite for dark comedy The Kill Room

Following their appearance onstage at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony last Sunday as a part of a Pulp Fiction reunion, Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson are teaming up again to lead the upcoming dark comedy film titled The Kill Room.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the crime thriller follows a hitman, his boss (Jackson), an art dealer (Thurman) and a money-laundering scheme that accidentally turns the assassin into an overnight avant-garde sensation, one that forces her to play the art world against the underworld. The film comes from writer Jonathan Jacobson, with Nicol Paone helming, and sees both Thurman and Jackson return to familiar territory involving hijinks and hired guns.

Production for the upcoming crime thriller is said to begin this spring in New Jersey and New York, with Yale’s recently launched sales and distribution banner, Great Escape, handling international sales. Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman and Jon Keeyes are producing under their Yale Productions banner alongside Anne Clements of Idiot Savant Pictures, Paone, Thurman, and Dannielle Thomas and Jason Weinberg from Untitled Entertainment. The Kill Room has no set release date as of yet.

“Getting to make The Kill Room — an already incredible script — with Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson, is beyond my wildest dreams,” said Paone. “Every moment they’re on-screen, they are both enviable and eye-catching. I am eternally grateful to both of them for saying yes, and I am thrilled to bring this to life alongside Anne Clements and Yale Productions.” Added Levine and Beckerman: “The combination of Uma and Sam for this project is a dream come true. We are certain that Nicol is going to deliver a special film, and one that strikes the perfect balance between dark humor and edge-of-your-seat thrills.”

Samuel L. Jackson recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 94th Academy Awards, honoring his long and illustrious career which includes films like Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, as well as several Marvel blockbuster films where he appeared as Nick Fury and the Star Wars prequel trilogy as Mace Windu. Meanwhile, Uma Thurman, alongside Pulp Fiction, is best-known for her starring role in the Kill Bill films. She currently appears in the Showtime series Super Pumped.

Will Smith resigns from The Academy following the backlash after slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars 2022

Will Smith has resigned from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences following the backlash after slapping comedian Chris Rock on stage during last Sunday's ceremony. Two days after the Academy's Board of Governors initiated “disciplinary proceedings” against Will Smith, the actor attempted to leave the organization voluntarily.

In the wake of stunning altercation onstage at the Oscars, the “heartbroken” King Richard star said he would accept all consequences for his conduct during Sunday’s ceremony. “I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable,” Smith said in a statement as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. “The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home.”

Smith continued, “I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.” Smith also acknowledged that his actions overshadowed other winners at the 94th Academy Awards. “I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film,” he stated, concluding with “change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”

Earlier this week, the Academy began disciplinary proceedings against Smith and issued a statement saying Smith was asked to leave the show following the slap but that he refused. The statement also acknowledged that the Academy “could have handled the situation differently.” Smith’s exit from the Academy means he can no longer vote for the Oscars but he can still be nominated for Academy Awards, attend future ceremonies and keep the statue he won.

“We have received and accepted Mr. Will Smith’s immediate resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,” Academy president David Rubin said in a statement. “We will continue to move forward with our disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, in advance of our next scheduled board meeting on April 18.”

The Academy says its disciplinary proceedings will continue, meaning there is still a possibility that he could be stripped of the Oscar he won on Sunday (which is unlikely) or he could be denied future appearance at Academy Awards ceremonies.

After Runway 34, BIRTHDAY boy Ajay Devgn to begin work on his next directorial; expected to be the COSTLIEST film of Bollywood

One of the biggest stars of Bollywood, Ajay Devgn, turns 53 today. Currently, he’s being hailed as the lucky charm. After all, since November 2021, he has appeared in three films in cameos – Sooryavanshi, Gangubai Kathiawadi and RRR, and all three films were huge hits. And expectations are high from Runway 34, his directorial venture which also features him in a leading role. It also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh and is set to release on Eid.

Last year, there were reports that Ajay Devgn plans to make a big-budget entertainer after the release of Runway 34. Bollywood Hungama has found out that the plan is very much. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The pre-visualisation work has already begun, even while Ajay Devgn is giving finishing touches to Runway 34. Once the aerial thriller is out, he’ll give more prominence to this venture.”

Usually, Ajay Devgn takes a gap between his directorial projects. His debut directorial, U Me Aur Hum released in 2008 followed by Shivaay, 8 years later, in 2016. There has been a six-year gap between the releases of Shivaay and Runway 34. This is the first time in his career that he’ll be directing almost back-to-back.

Shedding more light on this film, the source revealed, “It’s going to be very high on VFX. The budget is expected to be around Rs. 400 crore and hence, it’ll be the costliest film to come out of Bollywood. Ajay Devgn and his team have fiercely been secretive about the plot and genre, but there are murmurs that it has a mythological touch.”

The source continued, “The pre-production work will go on for more than a year. Ajay Devgn plans to go on floors only in the second half of 2023. Meanwhile, he’ll complete all his pending acting projects like Bholaa, Drishyam 2, Singham 3 etc.”

After Runway 34, Ajay Devgn’s next release would be the sports biopic Maidaan. This will be followed by the social comedy Thank God, which in all probability, will be the superstar’s last film this year.

A trade expert stated, “Ajay Devgn is riding high currently and is at the best phase of his career. With the box office expected to get bigger after the pandemic, his Rs. 400 crore dream project can emerge as a huge hit, if content clicks. Moreover, it sounds like a film fit for the big screen and such films are being patronized the most in cinemas by moviegoers in the post-Covid era.”

Zoya Akhtar's Archie comics adaptation starring Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda to kick off 40-day schedule in Ooty

Back in August 2021, it was rumoured that Zoya Akhtar is planning to launch Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Agastya Nanda in the industry with Archie comics Indian adaptation. The news was confirmed in November 2021 by Netflix but only the adaptation part and not about the cast. Netflix, in collaboration with Archie comics, will bring a coming-of-age story that will introduce the teenagers of Riverdale to a new generation in India. It is a live-action musical set in 1960s India, the film will be directed by Zoya Akhtar.

The shoot for the same began in Mumbai earlier in March 2022. Khushi Kapoor, who plays Betty Cooper, was seen in a plaid sweater vest over a shirt and a mini skirt donning brunette hair with bangs whereas Suhana Khan, who will essay Veronica Lodge, was dressed in casuals. Agastya Nanda aka Archie Andrews, was donning a t-shirt with pants and with brown-reddish hair. Now, the shoot will move to Ooty. According to a publication, the principal cast and core members of the team kicked off the schedule in Ooty last week. It will be a 40-day schedule after which an extensive schedule will begin in Mumbai in June.

Earlier, talking about this collaboration, director Zoya Akhtar said, “I am super excited to have the chance to bring The Archies to life. It was a large part of my childhood and teenage years. The characters are iconic and globally loved, which is also why I am a little nervous. I have to make sure the film stokes the nostalgia of a generation that grew up on the comic and yet resonates with the young adults today.”

The Archies, a feature film adaptation of the comics will be produced by Tiger Baby (Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti) and Graphic India (Sharad Devarajan) and will premiere exclusively on Netflix.

SEVENTEEN to release first-ever English single on April 15

South Korean superstars SEVENTEEN will kick off their grand return with the band’s first-ever English-language single set for release on April 15 (9 PM PT on April 14). Announced on SEVENTEEN’s official social media channels and the global fandom platform Weverse, the new single will act as a pre-release to the K-pop superstars’ 4th full-length album set to arrive in May.

The 13-member act’s first English-language single, the song is expected to serve as a prelude to SEVENTEEN’s heartfelt stories for their fans—CARATs—around the world. It will also be a starting point for ‘TEAM SEVENTEEN,’ a new project the band recently unveiled through a teaser video that hints at an exciting year to come for SEVENTEEN and CARAT as a united team.

As anticipation heightens for their return, the K-pop supergroup recently reaffirmed their presence in the global music scene by making their first appearance in the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI)’s 2021 Global Artist Chart as the 9th best-performing act of the year. SEVENTEEN was also the highest-ranked K-pop artist on IFPI’s Global Album Sales Chart, with their 9th EP Attacca at #3 of the top albums globally in 2021.

Mike Tyson completes dubbing for Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer Liger directed by Puri Jagannadh

Actor Vijay Deverakonda’s highly anticipated film Liger- Saala Crossbreed has completed its shoot and the post-production work is presently underway. Directed by ace director Puri Jagannadh, Mike Tyson is making his debut in Indian cinema with Liger.

As is known, the sequences involving Mike Tyson were shot in the USA with Vijay Deverakonda and others taking part in the schedule. Interim, Mike Tyson has completed dubbing for the film. “Thank you very much for being kind to me. I’m very grateful,” said Mike Tyson in a video.

Mike Tyson has played a mighty role in the film and his portions will be one of the major highlights. It will be a feast for fans to see Vijay Deverakonda and Mike Tyson together on screen. Movie buffs indeed are waiting with bated breath to witness the real action on big screens.

In association with Puri connects, the film is being produced jointly by Bollywood's leading production house Dharma Productions. Puri Jagannadh, Charmme Kaur, Karan Johar, and Apoorva Mehta together are bankrolling the film on a grand scale. Vishnu Sarma is handling the cinematography, while Kecha from Thailand is the stunt director.

Being made in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages, the Pan India Movie is scheduled for release in theatres worldwide on 25th August 2022.

Chris Rock shuts down an audience member who cursed Will Smith during his standup show

Chris Rock returned to The Wilbur in Boston on Thursday, following two standup shows the night before at which he broke his silence about the 94th Academy Awards. During his standup set in Boston, comedian Chris Rock stopped a fan from the audience who was chanting ‘f*** Will Smith’ during his live performance.

As People magazine reports, after Rock took the stage on Thursday, he began his set by once again addressing the Oscar Slapgate that happened over the weekend. During his latest gig, an audience member yelled out ‘f*** Will Smith,’ to which he immediately replied, "No, no, no, no, no."

Chris Rock did two shows at the same venue on Thursday, in which he addressed the controversy for the first time. He asked the crowd about their weekend and said during his first performance, "I have a whole show… that I wrote before the weekend, so, if you came here for that I'm still processing it. I will talk about it, and it will be serious, and it will be funny, but not tonight."

Though he did not mention Smith at either of his shows, he seemed to imply that he hasn't yet spoken with the King Richard star directly. “I haven't talked to anyone, despite what you heard,” he told the crowd during his late-night set. Chris later told the audience, "Except for some other pretty weird things, life is pretty good right now." The comedian received big cheers at the show which ran about an hour, as per The Hollywood.

Following Sunday night's stunning altercation, ticket sales for Rock's upcoming ‘Ego Death’ tour dates saw a spike in popularity, according to secondary ticket seller TickPick.

For the unversed, last weekend at 94th Academy Awards night, Chris Rock made a joke about Will's wife Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head, a result of the hair-loss condition alopecia. Shortly after the "Oscar Slap” debacle unfolded on Sunday night, Smith got a standing ovation when he won the Best Actor Oscar for King Richard. In his emotional acceptance speech, Smith apologized to his fellow nominees and the Academy. While Smith omitted Rock from his speech, he publicly apologized to the comedian the following day, writing on Instagram.

Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans reunite to lead Jason Bateman's space epic Project Artemis from Apple

Avengers co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans team up again to star in Apple’s high-profile film Project Artemis, helmed by Jason Batemon (Ozark).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rose Gilroy penned the script for the upcoming film which is described as focusing on the space race. The plot details and characters to be played by Johansson and Evans in the film have been kept under wraps. Johansson, Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn will produce under the These Pictures banner, and Bateman will produce through Aggregate Films. Deadline first reported the news.

The upcoming hot package is the second film in works for Scarlett Johansson with Apple, after Bride which is currently in development. Apple has had recent success in making films with last year's CODA which bagged three Oscars including best picture, best supporting actor and best adapted screenplay. The company has reportedly purchased Project Artemis in a $100 million deal.

On the work front, Scarlett Johansson's acclaimed credits include 2019's Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Story and 2017's Rough Nightand while Chris Evans’ previous work includes 2019's Knives Out, The Red Sea Diving Resort, and 2017's Gifted. The two have also worked together multiple times before, most notably in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff and Captain America/Steve Rogers.

As the face of the brand, he will also accentuate how medicines, diagnostic tests and healthcare products are conveniently available at customers’ fingertips.

#GharBaitheBaitheTakeItEasy campaign brings Aamir Khan as the new brand ambassador of the healthcare brand PharmEasy and introduces him to a set of quirky, disruptive, and ‘mad-humour’ genre TVCs. This campaign is conceptualised by FCB India. Aamir plays a triple role of the PharmEasy delivery person who pops up in the oddest places and in the craziest manner to tell customers about all the offerings from the PharmEasy brand and how all that people need to do now is ‘Take It Easy’ (at least when it comes to their healthcare needs).

With this association, the aim is to make the PharmEasy brand a household name for every Indian when it comes to healthcare. Collaborating with Aamir Khan will further strengthen the brand’s belief in making healthcare accessible to every nook and corner of the country.

Bella Hadid to mark her acting debut through Hulu Emmy-nominated comedy Ramy

Bella Hadid is rolling up her sleeves to next shine on the small screen! The supermodel will be making her acting debut in a scripted series with a recurring role on the third season of Hulu's critically acclaimed comedy Ramy.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, it’s unclear if Hadid will play herself or another character as those details are being kept under wraps. Created by and starring Ramy Youssef and based loosely on his life, the scripted comedy explores what it’s like to be caught between a religious community that believes life is a moral test and a millennial generation that doubts an afterlife even exists.

According to the streamer, the third season will find Ramy's family "forced to confront having lived a life dedicated to worldly concerns—and in some cases, lies—while Ramy all but abandons his spiritual journey, instead dedicating himself to him and his uncle's diamond business."

As Bella Hadid revealed to Vogue for the magazine’s March 2022 cover story, she’s always considered herself a “good actress”, just not a paid one. “I was the uglier sister. I was the brunette,” she told Vogue. “I wasn’t as cool as Gigi, not as outgoing. That’s really what people said about me. And unfortunately when you get told things so many times, you do just believe it. I always ask myself, how did a girl with incredible insecurities, anxiety, depression, body-image issues, eating issues, who hates to be touched, who has intense social anxiety—what was I doing getting into this business? But over the years I became a good actress.”

On acting front, Bella Hadid previously appeared in multiple episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills when her mother Yolanda Hadid was a regular cast member from 2012-2016. Her reality TV credits also include episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and her mother's reality show Making A Model with Yolanda Hadid. She also appeared in the 2015 music video for ex-boyfriend The Weeknd's "In The Night."
