Vidyut Jammwal to make Hollywood debut as Dhalsim in Street Fighter live-action film

Actor Vidyut Jammwal is officially headed to Hollywood. The Commando actor has been cast as Dhalsim in Legendary Entertainment’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Street Fighter, based on the iconic Capcom video game franchise. The news, first reported by Deadline, marks a major milestone in Jammwal’s career as he makes his long-anticipated Hollywood debut.

The film will be directed by Bad Trip helmer Kitao Sakurai, with plot details currently under wraps. However, the ensemble cast is already turning heads, with Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, and Jason Momoa taking on the role of Blanka. Jammwal joins this high-octane lineup as Dhalsim, the peaceful yet powerful fire-breathing yogi who has been a staple of the Street Fighter universe since his debut in Street Fighter II in 1991.

A master of martial arts both on and off screen, Jammwal is known for performing his own stunts and has carved a niche in Indian cinema through action-packed roles in the Commando and Khuda Haafiz franchises. His casting as Dhalsim feels like a natural extension of his on-screen persona, blending spiritual depth with explosive physicality.

While Legendary and Capcom have kept plot specifics under tight wraps, the project is expected to stay true to the spirit of the original game series — centering around a global fighting tournament orchestrated by the villainous M. Bison, played in this adaptation by Oppenheimer actor David Dastmalchian.

The Street Fighter franchise, launched in 1987, remains one of the most successful and recognizable gaming properties in the world, having sold over 55 million units globally. This new adaptation follows several earlier attempts to bring the series to screen, including the 1994 film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and the 2009 reboot Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

Veteran actor-producer Dheeraj Kumar, best known for Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, passes away at 80

The Indian film and television industry has been reeling under a series of losses in recent days, with the passing of several celebrated figures. After mourning the deaths of TV personality Shefali Jariwala, veteran actor Kota Srinivasa Rao, and iconic actress B. Saroja Devi, the fraternity is now grieving the demise of actor-producer Dheeraj Kumar. He was 80.

According to reports, Dheeraj Kumar passed away in Mumbai after battling acute pneumonia. His family had earlier stated his critical health condition, requesting prayers and privacy. Sadly, despite receiving intensive care, the veteran could not recover.

Dheeraj Kumar’s journey in the entertainment industry began in 1965 when he participated in a talent contest alongside Rajesh Khanna and Subhash Ghai. Though Rajesh Khanna won, Dheeraj stood out as one of the finalists and carved a niche for himself in the decades that followed.

He appeared in several Hindi and Punjabi films through the 1970s and 80s, including Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Swami, and Bezubaan. He acted in over 20 Punjabi films between 1970 and 1984.

Later, he transitioned into television and left a lasting impact as a producer. He founded the banner Creative Eye and was the force behind popular shows such as Milee, Kahan Gaye Woh Log, Maayka, and the courtroom drama Adaalat. His contribution helped shape Indian television content during the early 2000s.

News is now out that her maiden production is titled Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan and it will star herself along with her friend and acclaimed actress Tillotama Shome, who will play a pivotal role in the movie. The film is a queer love story that aims to break stereotypes and spark meaningful conversations. It will be directed by Sanjoy Nag and is slated to go on floors by the end of 2025.

Earlier this year, Shweta had shared that her debut production would be centred around a queer narrative, and now with Tillotama on board, the project takes on a new emotional depth and resonance. The duo will be seen working together for the first time in this unique film.

EXCLUSIVE: Yash Raj Films’ release strategy for Saiyaara REVEALED – no show before 9:30 am, only 6 shows on release day, discounted ticket price for 9:30 am show to attract college students

Mohit Suri’s intense romantic drama Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, will release this Friday, July 18, and trade expects it to have a surprise opening. The producers, Yash Raj Films (YRF), are also distributing the film and they informed all cinemas about the release strategy yesterday.

An exhibition source told Bollywood Hungama, “YRF has asked all the cinemas that the shows of Saiyaara should start from 9:30 am onwards. This means that theatres can’t play shows very early in the morning. Secondly, theatres have been instructed that they can’t play more than 6 shows on July 18. This particular directive, however, is applicable only for the day of release. From Saturday, July 19, theatres can play as many shows as they wish to.”

The source continued, “To attract the youth, YRF has come up with two special initiatives. One is widely known, that is, if one uses the code ‘SAIYAARA’ on BookMyShow, the patron can get a discount of 50%. This is valid on a minimum of 2 tickets and the discount will be up to Rs. 200. That’s not all. YRF has also told the theatres that the first show of the day, that is, the one at 9:30 am, should be ‘specially priced’ to attract the college-going audience. YRF further said that the rest of the shows of the day should have the normal weekend rate.”

A trade expert commented, “By having just six shows in a day, the occupancy will be higher in all shows. Also, India is a price-conscious country. As a result, the BookMyShow offer will entice people. Lastly, by having cheaper ticket rates in the morning, many would be enticed to go for the early show. In fact, using the 50% discount offer in the morning show will ensure that the youth can watch the film at a very dirt-cheap price. Earlier, morning shows used to be crowded by the under-25 population but this trend took a hit in many centres in the post-pandemic era. Hopefully, with Saiyaara, this trend will be reversed.”

Saiyaara is the second film in recent times that has come up with out-of-the-box release strategies to attract moviegoers. Last month’s hit, Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan, also followed certain interesting ideas like no show before 11:00 am and only four shows between 11:00 and 5:00 pm on release day.

Manoj Bajpayee confirms The Family Man 3 will stream this October or November

The question every fan of the Family Man franchise is asking: when is The Family Man 3 streaming? Manoj Bajpayee has now confirmed that the much-awaited third season of the massively popular Amazon Prime series will begin streaming in the last week of October or the first week of November.

“The shooting is complete,” Bajpayee shared. “When we started, we had no idea The Family Man would go this far. Is it the most popular work I’ve done? I would say, most definitely, yes. Although I’ve done some other excellent series on OTT, like Abhishek Chaubey’s Killer Soup, the reach of The Family Man has gone beyond anything I’ve experienced.”

The actor is confident that Season 3 will match — if not exceed — expectations. “All I can say at this moment is that those who loved Seasons 1 and 2 won’t be disappointed. Veteran actor Kota Srinivasa Rao passes away at 83 in Hyderabad

Renowned Telugu actor and former MLA Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away on Sunday at the age of 83. He breathed his last at his residence in Hyderabad, leaving behind a legacy spanning over four decades in Indian cinema.

Known for his impeccable performances across genres, Rao had acted in more than 750 films in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. His versatility allowed him to portray a wide range of roles—from iconic villains to memorable character roles. Films like Pratighatana, Aha Naa Pellanta, Shiva, and Mahatma cemented his reputation as one of Telugu cinema’s finest actors.

Born in Vijayawada, Kota Srinivasa Rao began his professional life as a banker and theatre artist before entering films in the late 1970s. Over the years, he became a beloved figure in the industry, earning accolades including the Padma Shri in 2015 for his contribution to the arts.5

Apart from acting, Rao was active in politics and served as an MLA from the Vijayawada East constituency from 1999 to 2004, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Condolences have poured in from across the film and political fraternities. Celebrities, politicians, and fans have remembered him as a towering personality whose performances left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

Rao is survived by his wife and children. His final rites are expected to be held with full state honours.

Aamir Khan reveals, “I am singing two songs in my next comedy”

If there is one tireless explorer in Indian cinema, it is Aamir Khan. Way back in 1998, he was the first Khan superstar to sing in his voice in Vikram Bhatt’s Ghulam. Now 27 years later, Aamir is back singing on screen. This time his voice trained and ready to take on the singing vocation professionally.

Said Aamir, “When I sang ‘Aati kya khandala’, I did it for a lark. I was lucky it worked. Now, I’ve been properly training to be a singer for some years now. It’s a for an untitled comedy. Let me tell you what kind of film it is. It is a Basu Chatterjee or Hrishikesh Mukherjee genre of film, which I feel that we have forgotten making. You know, we don't make that kind of cinema anymore. Sweet, innocent comedy. And, you know, the stakes of a film like this are never too high. No one's going to die or anything in the plot. It'd be a really warm, wonderful feeling you get when you watch the film.”

Aamir plays a cameo in the sweet-natured comedy. But that is not what makes this project so special.

Said Aamir, “I am playing a cameo. I'm playing a very important cameo in that. Subhash, you'll be surprised to hear that I'm singing two songs in that, in my own voice. Oh wow, that's amazing. Since I sang ‘Aati kya khandala’, I have been taking classes in singing. And my guru is Sucheta Bhattacharjee. I've been learning singing from her.”

Aamir is a huge fan of Lata Mangeshkar. “My days begins with her songs,” he said. “I miss Lata Didi so much. I was very close to her. She was always so warm and loving to me. And I would have really liked her to hear my attempts, whatever I'm making. Ram Sampath is composing the songs that I will be singing in the untitled comedy. I can’t wait to know how the audience reacts to my singing.”

EXCLUSIVE: Mahesh Manjrekar’s grand Diwali release Punha Shivajiraje Bhosale triggers IP Battle; Everest Entertainment warns of legal action

This Diwali, it's not just Thama and Kartik Aaryan-Sreeleela’s untitled film that will clash in cinemas. In Maharashtra and certain other centres of the country, Punha Shivajiraje Bhosale will also try its luck. It is the spiritual sequel to the much loved 2009 film, Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy; hence, it has generated tremendous excitement, more so after its massy teaser dropped online a few days ago. However, the film got into a controversy after a public notice was published by Everest Entertainment, which produced Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy.

As per this notice published in Atul Mohan’s Complete Cinema magazine in the June 28 – July 5, 2025 issue, Everest Entertainment LLP, through their lawyers Bar & Brief Attorneys, informed the public and the film industry that Everest Entertainment is the co-producer and the sole, legal owner of all intellectual property rights related to Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy. It also revealed that the ownership covers the world and lasts for 60 years. It further clarified that they are the absolute, beneficial and legal owners of the film’s intellectual property rights, script, music, negatives, etc.

Moreover, the public notice also said that Everest Entertainment has the exclusive rights to produce any sequel or prequel of Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy. The notice specifically warned that no one else, including Mahesh Manjrekar, Rahul Sughand, Rahul Puranik, or any third party, has the authority to enter into deals or agreements related to the film’s rights. Any such unauthorized deals would be considered a violation of Everest’s legal ownership.

Additionally, the notice invited any person, company, or entity that believes they have a claim related to the rights of the film, whether by way of assignment, license, sale, pledge, mortgage, litigation, or any other manner, to submit their claim in writing, along with documentary proof, within 14 days from the date of publication of this notice. If no claim was made within this period, it stated that the claim would be treated as waived and that Everest would not be liable or responsible for it. It also stated that without proper documentary evidence, the claims would not be considered.

Bollywood Hungama contacted Mahesh Manjrekar more than once but he was unavailable for comment.

About Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy and Punha Shivajiraje Bhosale

Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy starred Sachin Khedekar in the role of Dinkar, a common man in the present day who is facing a tough time as a Maharashtrian in Mumbai. When the situation deteriorates and, in frustration, he expresses regret over being born a Maharashtrian, the spirit of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (played by Mahesh Manjrekar) is awakened. He meets Dinkar and blasts him for his thoughts. He guides him and what happens next forms the rest of the film.

Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy also featured Priya Bapat, Siddharth Jadhav, Vineet Kumar Singh, Kamlesh Sawant, Reema Lagoo and others. It was the costliest Marathi film of the time and also an all-time grosser. It was released on April 3, 2009, the same day when the producers went on a strike triggered by a dispute with multiplex cinemas over profit-sharing. As a result, no other major film was released for the next two months. This and the extremely positive word of mouth gave Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy a clean run.

Punha Shivajiraje Bhosale will feature Siddharth Bodke in the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Mahesh Manjrekar had written and backed the 2009 film. EXCLUSIVE: Param Sundari teaser with Maalik CONFIRMS Sidharth Malhotra-Janhvi Kapoor starrer’s August release; Huma Qureshi’s Baby Do Die Do promo debuts in cinemas

In the first week of June 2025, Bollywood Hungama was the first one to report that Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films is considering to push his upcoming romantic drama, Param Sundari, from July 25 to August 29. With July 25 approaching and no sign of the promotions of Param Sundari commencing, it became clear that the Sidharth Malhotra-Janhvi Kapoor film will not arrive in cinemas on its original release date. Yesterday, Maddock Films, in a unique manner, revealed that their film has indeed been pushed.

Maalik, starring Rajkummar Rao, released in cinemas on July 11 and two teasers were attached with its prints. One was that of Param Sundari. The asset was the same as the one that came in May except for the release date. Instead of ‘This July’, ‘This August’ was mentioned in the new teaser. The original teaser ends with the text ‘In cinemas, July 25’. The revised teaser’s slate simply mentions ‘In cinemas worldwide this August’.

This has raised questions about whether Param Sundari will be released on August 29 or some other date next month. A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “August 29 seems like the likely date. If they had planned to release the film on August 1, there would have been some developments by now in terms of promotions and distribution deals. That hasn’t happened so far. It probably won’t arrive in cinemas on August 14 as the two biggies, War 2 and Coolie, have already taken over the coveted slot. And as it usually happens, it is not advisable to release a film a week before or after the clash of two biggies. This leaves August 29 as the apt date for Param Sundari. Nevertheless, let’s wait for the official announcement.”

Besides Param Sundari, the other teaser that moviegoers got a chance to see with Maalik is that of Baby Do Die Do. It is produced by Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem under the banner of Saleem Siblings. The one-minute teaser focuses on Huma’s character and describes her as ‘1st desi female assassin’. The film also stars Sikandar Kher and his voice can be heard. The asset ends with the lines ‘Badi story, badi screen pe, coming soon, baby!’

Yesterday, Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem took to Instagram to inform their followers that the teaser of Baby Do Die Do can be experienced only in cinemas for the time being. They also revealed that the first 5000 people who join their broadcast channel will exclusively get a chance to see it before it drops digitally.

Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma’s newly opened eatery in Canada, The Kap’s Cafe, issued a heartfelt statement after multiple rounds of gunfire were shot at the café’s exterior around midnight on July 9, just a couple of days after its launch. A video of the incident quickly surfaced online, leaving fans worried about the safety of the place.

In response to the unsettling incident, the official Instagram handle of The Kap’s Cafe shared a message expressing grief and resilience in the face of violence. The statement read: “We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock but we are not giving up.”

The message further acknowledged the overwhelming support received from the community: “Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This cafe exists because of your belief in what we’re building together. Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community. From all of us at Kap’s Cafe, thank you and see you soon, under better skies.”

While the café has taken a strong stance against the act of violence, Kapil Sharma has yet to issue a personal statement on the matter.

Alia Bhatt’s former assistant accused of leaking confidential production house data to foreign entity

The investigation into the financial fraud case involving Alia Bhatt’s former personal assistant, Archana Shetty, has taken a serious turn with fresh allegations surfacing. Sources within the Juhu Police have confirmed that Shetty allegedly leaked confidential information related to Bhatt’s production house, Eternal Sunshine Productions, to an unidentified individual based in the United States.

According to officers familiar with the probe, the data leak is believed to have involved sensitive business documents, financial reports, and potentially unreleased project details. The motive behind the leak is currently being examined, with authorities suspecting it may be linked to financial gains or the exploitation of proprietary content.

In parallel, Shetty is also accused of transferring large sums of money from Alia Bhatt’s personal and company-linked accounts into those belonging to multiple individuals. Among the recipients named in the preliminary investigation are Satvik Sahu, Simi John, Shashank Pandey, Chandni Jitendra Prasad Dixit, and Manish Sukhij. The pattern of these transactions suggests an attempt to mask the embezzlement using multiple personal and firm accounts.

Adding to the growing list of accusations, Shetty is said to have made purchases in the name of Eternal Sunshine Productions without authorization. These include high-value electronics and other goods reportedly delivered to various addresses unconnected to the company. Notably, iPhones and iPads were among the items bought, indicating misuse of company funds for personal consumption or resale.

The Juhu Police have already registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal breach of trust and cheating, and are now coordinating with cybercrime experts to trace the path of the leaked information. They are also working to identify the US-based recipient and establish whether any international laws have been violated.

Police officials are reportedly verifying financial trails and digital communications. The involvement of foreign entities adds a layer of complexity to the case. We hear that they are also reaching out to relevant authorities abroad to investigate it further.

Alia Bhatt has remained tight-lipped about the incident and no official statement has been released from Eternal Sunshine Productions regarding the breach. Further updates are awaited as the probe deepens.

SCREEN launches SCREEN academy to nurture India’s next generation of Filmmakers

The Indian Express Group and SCREEN on Wednesday announced the launch of SCREEN Academy, a not-for-profit initiative aimed at supporting and highlighting emerging talent in Indian cinema.

With an exciting and fast-growing list of diverse members including Cannes and Oscar winners, Guneet Monga, Payal Kapadia and Resul Pookutty, and veteran screenwriter Anjum Rajabali, the Academy, working with India’s top film institutes, will identify and empower the next generation of filmmakers through education, representation, and recognition.

Established with the generous support of Founding Patron Abhishek Lodha of the Lodha Foundation, SCREEN Academy will annually provide postgraduate fellowships to students nominated by their film schools, who demonstrate exceptional storytelling potential but lack the financial resources to pursue formal film education.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis said the timing and the location couldn’t be more relevant. “The film industry has an inseparable association with Mumbai. I am thrilled to learn of the inception of the not-for-profit Screen Academy by The Indian Express Group…I am certain that the Indian film industry will benefit immensely from the new filmmaking talent the academy aims to cultivate.”

Said Anant Goenka, Executive Director of The Indian Express Group, who steered the idea of the Academy: "SCREEN Academy represents a bold step toward institutionalising excellence in the entertainment and culture space. We will create an ecosystem that not only celebrates excellence but actively nurtures diverse and promising talent with both financial aid and access."

The SCREEN Academy Fellowships 2025 will cover full financial support for postgraduate studies at premier institutions, Film and Television Institute of India (Pune), Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (Kolkata), and Whistling Woods International (Mumbai). The Academy plans to expand its footprint across the country and add more film schools going forward.

Beyond funding, SCREEN Academy fellows will benefit from an unprecedented industry mentorship programme featuring India's top studios and most respected film professionals as Academy members. These industry leaders will provide masterclasses, internships, and ongoing professional guidance.

EXCLUSIVE: Genelia Deshmukh features in a cameo in Masti 4

Almost a week ago, it came to light that Masti 4 has gone on floors, as evident by the pictures posted by the film’s makers. The unit of the naughty comedy at present is in Birmingham, United Kingdom and is shooting a dance number on a huge scale. If the leaked assets from the sets are to be believed, this track will be a highlight as it features a special appearance by none other than Genelia Deshmukh.

Earlier in the day, the unit of Masti 4 was present at Victoria Square, Birmingham. The three leads of the film – Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani - were seen filming a song along with hundreds of extras. Since Victoria Square is a public place, a lot of onlookers were also present, and they recorded videos and took pictures. These images and videos made their way to social media.

In some of these pictures, Genelia Deshmukh can be seen present on the sets. At first, it was thought that she was merely present to witness the shoot. Her presence was also no secret as she could be seen in a picture posted by the film’s team where they can be seen celebrating the birthday of Elnaaz Norouzi, one of the actresses in the film. But in some of the videos, Genelia Deshmukh could be seen rehearsing the steps and even shooting for it.

This is not the first time that Genelia Deshmukh has appeared in a cameo in a film starring hubby Riteish Deshmukh. Earlier, she had a special appearance in the song 'Aala Holicha San' from Riteish’s super hit Marathi movie, Lai Bhaari (2014). She had a similar cameo in the song ‘Dhuvun Taak’ in Mauli (2018).

Genelia Deshmukh has been in the news of late for several reasons. Her much-awaited film Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan, has emerged as a success at the box office. Yesterday, her new film announcement took the moviegoers by surprise. It is titled Gunmaaster G9 and co-stars Emraan Hashmi and Aparshakti Khurana. It is directed by Aditya Datt of Aashiq Banaya Aapne (2005) fame.

Coming back to Masti 4, besides Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani and Elnaaz Norouzi, it also stars Ruhii Singh and Shreya Sharma. It is directed by Milap Zaveri.

EXCLUSIVE: Fan power WINS; F1: The Movie to continue playing in IMAX despite Superman takeover

The Brad Pitt-starrer F1: The Movie is running very successfully at the box office, particularly in the IMAX version. The racing saga has emerged as a grand cinematic experience and the experience of watching it in IMAX is something else, resulting in healthy sales in the special format even on the weekdays. Fans of the film were disappointed as the movie was going to have just a 2-week showcasing in IMAX. But now, it has come to light that F1: The Movie has got an extended run.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “F1: The Movie released on June 27 while Superman releases tomorrow, July 11. Hence, it was known from the beginning that the former would be available for just two weeks in the IMAX screens. It was also known that F1: The Movie would be lapped up in the IMAX version. Yet, the response to the film in the 33 IMAX screens in India took everyone by surprise. The film refuses to slow down despite inflated tickets. Even morning shows on weekdays are getting huge occupancy, which is a rarity.”

The source continued, “The collections made it clear that a lot of gas is left in the tank when it comes to F1: The Movie in IMAX. Meanwhile, fans have also been tweeting that the racing flick should continue in the format. But that was not possible due to Superman.”

The source then said, “This is when the studio, Warner Bros, came up with a solution. They have asked IMAX theatres to play an early morning show of F1: The Movie from July 11. Superman’s shows start at 9:00 am or 10:00 am in IMAX. These cinemas were asked to play F1: The Movie 3 ½ hours before the first show of Superman. This means that F1: The Movie might have a show at 6:00 am or even 5:00 am! But Warner has assured cinemas that they’ll get an audience for this film at these unearthly hours as there’s tremendous demand to see the movie in IMAX.”

A trade expert commented, “All theatres might not agree to this idea but most of them will and hence, F1: The Movie will continue in IMAX. From Week 2, F1: The Movie can maybe be played in the usual time slot, depending on how it trends in Week 3. Thankfully, both Superman and F1: The Movie are backed by Warner Bros and this will make it easier for shows to be accommodated.”

The IMAX continues to be a sought-after format, especially for big-budget grand films. However, the IMAX rules are such that they want to ensure that there are not too many IMAX releases at one time. Hence, Jurassic World: Rebirth, which was released between F1: The Movie and Superman, didn’t get a release in IMAX.

On the other hand, a war is brewing between War 2 and Coolie, both of which are all set to release on August 14. War 2 has taken over all the IMAX screens as per an exclusive deal. Last weekend, Bollywood Hungama reported the viral story on how Coolie’s makers inserted the IMAX logo despite no confirmation from IMAX that their film will be released in their screens. It yet again showed how the format has a prestige value and how makers deeply desire that their biggie gets screened in IMAX.

Deepak Mukut reunites Emraan Hashmi, Aditya Datt, and Himesh Reshammiya for action drama Gunmaaster G9; shoot begins post-monsoon

The cameras are set to roll on Gunmaaster G9, a family action drama that brings together the Aashiq Banaya Aapne team, Emraan Hashmi, director Aditya Datt, and music composer Himesh Reshammiya, after nearly two decades.

Produced by Deepak Mukut and Hunar Mukut under the Soham Rockstar Entertainment banner, the film features an ensemble cast including Emraan Hashmi, Genelia D’Souza, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Singh. After Sanam Teri Kasam earlier this year, Mukut has returned with a new genre-driven project.

Gunmaaster G9 will feature Emraan Hashmi in an action role, with stylized visuals and a focus on emotional storytelling.

Director Aditya Datt, known for Table No. 21, the Commando franchise, and the recent OTT series Bad Cop, sees the film as a full-circle moment.

“When we made Aashiq Banaya Aapne, we were young, hungry, and experimental. With Gunmaaster G9, we’re still all of those things—but sharper and more evolved. It’s a full-circle moment for me. "I still maintain that he DID NOT commit suicide" - The INSIDE story on the last 24 hours of Guru Dutt's life; a brother's emotional recollection

The 100th birth anniversary of one of the greatest film personalities ever, Guru Dutt, is celebrated on July 9. He died at the age of just 38 but the contribution he made to cinema has been unforgettable. No wonder that 60 years after his passing, he continues to be talked about and remembered. Some believe that he committed suicide while some don’t believe this theory at all. Devi Dutt, brother of Guru Dutt, spoke at length with Filmfare 9 years ago about why he was sure that his brother didn’t end his own life.

In the April 2016 issue, a detailed interview of Devi Dutt was published in which he talked about Guru Dutt’s beginnings, his relationship with Geeta Dutt and a lot more. At one point, he explained what happened on October 9, 1964, a day before Guru Dutt was found dead.

Devi Dutt said, “After Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962), Guru Dutt and Bhabhi (Geeta Dutt) had patched up. It was decided that the entire family would stay together at 48 Pali Hill once it was redeveloped. On October 9, 1964, he was at his studio with Tanuja, Rehman and director Shaeed Latif for his production Baharein Phir Bhi Aayegi. But Mala ji (Mala Sinha) had got stuck in Madras. So, the shooting got postponed. Bhabhi had gone to the children’s school for PTA and was supposed to send (their sons) Tarun and Arun across in the evening. We left for home in the car. He asked me to buy kites and manjha from Bandra as he wanted to fly kites with the children over the weekend. Then we stopped at Charag Din at Colaba. He bought clothes for the boys and also some for me.”

He continued, “Then we stopped at Kanji Bhai broker’s house at Marine Lines to collect whisky bottles. That was my last evening with Guru Dutt. The next day, he was no more. I still maintain that he did not commit suicide. It must have been due to the sleeping pills after heavy drinking with Abrar. Alia Bhatt's former assistant arrested for allegedly cheating her of Rs 77 lakh

In a shocking breach of trust, Juhu police have arrested Vedika Prakash Shetty, the former personal assistant of Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, for allegedly defrauding Bhatt of Rs.76.9 lakh. The fraud spanned from May 2022 to August 2024 and involved both the actress’s personal wallet and her company, Eternal Sunshine Productions Pvt Ltd.

The complaint was lodged on January 23, 2025, by Alia’s mother, veteran actor-director Soni Razdan. A case was formally registered under sections pertaining to criminal breach of trust and cheating. Investigations led the Juhu police to initiate a nationwide manhunt for Vedika, who remained elusive for nearly five months.

Finally, Shetty was located at her sister’s residence in Bengaluru earlier this week and promptly brought back to Mumbai on a transit warrant for further legal proceedings.

Police allege that during her tenure from 2021 to 2024, Vedika prepared fake invoices and exaggerated expense claims—including travel, meetings, and logistical arrangements. She used professional-grade software to ensure the documents appeared authentic. After obtaining Alia’s signature, the funds were transferred to an accomplice’s account, who then rerouted the money back to Vedika.

As the former secretary and a trusted aide, Vedika had privileged access to Bhatt’s schedules and finances. The alleged fraudulent activity has sparked widespread concern over the vulnerability of high-profile personalities to internal financial deception.

Vedika is currently in custody at the Juhu police station. Authorities are meticulously examining her role in the scheme and identifying the purported accomplices who helped divert the funds. Legal experts predict charges under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and potentially under the Information Technology Act for electronic document forgery.

The case has sent shockwaves through Bollywood, highlighting the need for stricter internal controls and financial audits within productions and personal management. Lawyers and accountants are advising celebrities and businesses to adopt robust verification processes for invoices and third-party payments.

EXCLUSIVE: Pakistan recreated in Thailand for Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar

Yesterday, on the occasion of Ranveer Singh’s birthday, the much-awaited teaser of Dhurandhar was unveiled and it met with a rocking response. The casting, the historical backdrop, the BGM and the association of Uri (2019) maker Aditya Dhar as its director have further contributed to its buzz. Bollywood Hungama now brings to you a fascinating trivia about the film, which will surely surprise you.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Several scenes of Dhurandhar are set in Pakistan. Interestingly, these scenes have been shot in Thailand”

It is difficult to imagine the Asian country to be depicted as Pakistan, possibly because the topography of both regions is different. The source, however, assured, “The makers have taken all the care to ensure that the shooting location ditto looks like our neighbouring country, as evident in the trailer. Also, we must understand that Thailand is not just beaches, sea and islands and has a lot more to offer. Moreover, the government of Thailand provides excellent facilities. They extended all possible cooperation to the team of Dhurandhar. As a result, shooting there was an ideal choice and the makers were happy that they took the decision.”

Shooting in Thailand was quite common for Hindi films at one point. Some of the notable films in last 15-20 films that were shot there were Wanted (2009), Ready (2011), Student Of The Year (2012), Housefull 2 (2012), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Entertainment (2014), Baaghi 2 (2016) Baar Baar Dekho (2016), Junglee (2019), etc. Kabir Khan’s ambitious web series The Forgotten Army (2020) was also partly filmed in Thailand.

Sooryavanshi (2021) was perhaps the last film of the pre-pandemic era to be shot in Thailand. Post-pandemic, Rajshri’s Dono (2023) was set in the Asian country. Shanaya Kapoor’s film Bedhadak, directed by Shashank Khaitan, was all set to be filmed in Bangkok but it was shelved.

Not just Bollywood but even Hollywood has been enchanted by the country. The shoot of this week’s big Hollywood release, Jurassic World Rebirth, began with a schedule in Thailand. Season 3 of the popular Netflix show The White Lotus took place in Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Samui. According to reports, it resulted in a significant increase in internet searches for its shooting venue, leading to a surge in tourism.

The upcoming highly awaited show Alien: Earth, based on the Alien franchise, was shot in Thailand last year. It has an Indian connection as it features Adarsh Gourav. Moreover, makers of the Marvel show Ms Marvel (2022), which had Farhan Akhtar in a crucial role, also recreated Pakistan in Thailand, just like Dhurandhar.

Coming back to Dhurandhar, it also stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan and Sara Arjun. Backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, it will be released in cinemas on December 5.

Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 finally gets rolling: Ranveer Singh - Kiara Advani to shoot from January 2026, Priyanka Chopra may return

The long-awaited Don 3, directed by Farhan Akhtar, which had been delayed for various reasons, is finally set to begin shooting in January 2026. Confirming this development, a source told Subhash K Jha, “Yes, there’s been a delay—but it couldn’t be helped. Ranveer Singh, who replaced Shah Rukh Khan in the franchise, had to deal with a wave of online trolling for ‘daring’ to step into SRK’s shoes. Farhan and Ranveer mutually decided to lie low and let the heat die down. Ranveer also needed time to physically and mentally prepare for the role, which requires rigorous martial arts training.”

The source further added, “After that, Kiara Advani—who was signed on to replace Priyanka Chopra as the female lead—got pregnant. There’s an insane demand to watch the film in IMAX due to which its shows ran with excellent occupancy even on the weekdays in the 33 IMAX centres of India. Looking at this response, the management of Eros IMAX in Mumbai have decided to play a post-midnight show.

On Saturday and Sunday this week, a 2:05 am show of F1: The Movie was played in the South Mumbai standalone IMAX theatre. As per sources, the show was also played at the same time in the previous weekend. Despite the unearthly hour, the bookings have been great. When Bollywood Hungama had a look at the occupancy of the 2:05 am show of July 5 at 11:00 pm on July 5, more than 50% of the show was full and seats were filling fast.

On the other hand, Jurassic World: Rebirth, which released this week, had a great opening of Rs. 9.25 crores. Many in the trade were shocked to see that it didn’t get the desired number of shows despite decent advance sales and huge popularity of the franchise among both masses and classes.

Thankfully, the situation got corrected on Saturday. As per trade sources, more than a hundred shows of the dinosaur saga were added across the country. A trade expert told Bollywood Hungama, “The collections on Friday and word of mouth made it clear that Jurassic World: Rebirth will jump on Saturday. Accordingly, cinemas had no choice but to allot more showcasing to the film.” The film earned nearly Rs. 12.50-13 crores on its second day.

Jurassic World: Rebirth is distributed by Warner Bros, which also released F1: The Movie. Bollywood Hungama had reported last week how even for the Brad Pitt-starrer, the Hollywood studio had to fight with the multiplexes for fair showcasing.

Tuesday offer to continue

The high-ticket rates for F1: The Movie have come under the scanner. Many want to watch the film but at a reasonable price. This is also a reason why the 2:05 am show at Eros has attracted people. It is the cheapest IMAX show in the country with the Prime seats available for Rs. 299 while Classic seats are sold for just Rs. 199.

Usually, high-performing films don’t opt for Tuesday offers, a popular scheme under which tickets are sold for Rs. 99/149/199 for normal seats and Rs. 299 for special formats. But Warner opted for it for F1: The Movie. The trade source commented, “Warner could have avoided the offer but it seems like they wanted the audience to enjoy the film at affordable rates. As a result, its Tuesday footfalls were high, at par with the footfalls on the weekend.”

The trade source also said, “Normally, after the Tuesday offer, Wednesday collections see a major drop. But F1: The Movie collected the same amount, that is, around Rs. 3.50 crores, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, a never-before-seen occurrence since the offer began earlier this year.”

The source also revealed, “This Tuesday, the offer will once again be available for F1: The Movie and also Jurassic World: Rebirth.”

All eyes are now on Superman, the third consecutive Hollywood biggie. And this one too is backed by Warner Bros. An industry insider commented, “Two Hindi films are also up for release on July 11. Once again, expect fights over shows, a fractured release on a Friday and a correction the next day. Ab toh aadat si hai humko aise jeene ki!”

Madhya Pradesh HC orders fresh trial in Saif Ali Khan’s Rs 15,000 crores inheritance dispute

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and his family have suffered a significant legal setback after the Madhya Pradesh High Court set aside a 25-year-old order that upheld their claim to ancestral property worth an estimated Rs 15,000 crores. The court has now ordered a fresh trial in the decades-old inheritance dispute involving the former royal family of Bhopal.

The property in question traces back to the princely state of Bhopal and was inherited by Saif Ali Khan, his mother Sharmila Tagore, and his sisters Soha and Saba Ali Khan, following the death of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, former Indian cricket captain and Nawab of Pataudi. Court Sets Aside 2000 Decree A Bhopal district court had ruled in 2000 that the Pataudi family was the rightful heirs to the estate, based on the succession of Saif’s grandmother, Sajida Sultan, the daughter of the last ruling Nawab of Bhopal, Hamidullah Khan. However, in a new development, Justice Sanjay Dwivedi of the Madhya Pradesh High Court overturned the trial court’s decision, citing reliance on a precedent that the Supreme Court has since overruled.

“I am of the opinion that the trial court, without considering other aspects of the matter, had dismissed the suits, that too relying upon the judgment which has already been overruled by the Supreme Court,” Justice Dwivedi stated in the order. “Thus, in my opinion, the impugned judgment and decree deserve to be and are hereby set aside.”

The High Court directed the trial court to re-examine the matter from scratch and permitted all parties to present fresh evidence in light of recent legal developments. The fresh trial is to be conducted expeditiously, ideally within one year. Background of the Dispute The legal battle stems from the inheritance of the personal property of Nawab Hamidullah Khan, the last ruling Nawab of Bhopal, who had three daughters: Abida, Sajida, and Rabia. Sajida Sultan, who married Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, was declared the heir to the estate after her sister Abida migrated to Pakistan. The succession was formalised in 1962 when the Government of India issued a certificate naming Sajida as the sole inheritor.

Sajida’s son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, inherited the property, which was eventually passed down to Saif, Soha, and Saba. However, other heirs of the Nawab — including Begum Suraiya Rashid and Nawab Mehr Taj Sajida Sultan — challenged the inheritance, arguing that the partition of Nawab Hamidullah’s property was unfair and did not comply with Muslim Personal Law.

Their suit, initially dismissed in 2000, has now been revived by the High Court.

The order also referred to the 1949 Instrument of Accession through which the princely state of Bhopal merged with the Union of India. As per the agreement, the Nawab retained rights to personal properties, and succession was to follow the Bhopal Succession to the Throne Act, 1947.

As mentioned, this isn’t the first time the couple has signed on together for a brand. In October 2024, they were announced as brand ambassadors for Pokémon GO.

Genelia shared her excitement at the time, saying, “As a mom and a proud Indian, the 'Festival of Light' event is a beautiful blend of tradition and technology. It's incredible to see Pokémon GO celebrate Indian culture in such a fun and engaging way — especially with characters like Pikachu wearing a saree! Anurag Basu drops exciting update on Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela starrer untitled romantic musical

Director Anurag Basu has finally shared a much-awaited update on his upcoming untitled film starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela. While promoting his recently released film Metro In Dino, Basu spoke about the progress of his next project, which has already sparked curiosity among fans.

Speaking to News18 Showsha, Basu said, “Half of it is done, half is remaining. The shooting will begin very soon, and the film will be completed within a month. We’ll announce the title and release date soon. I’m just focused on wrapping it up well."

The film, which is reportedly a romantic musical in the style of the iconic Aashiqui films, marks the first collaboration between Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela, with the latter making her much-anticipated Hindi film debut. SHOCKING: Did Coolie makers violate IMAX guidelines by using its logo in Aamir Khan’s poster?

Two days ago, the poster of Aamir Khan from the Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie was unveiled, and it received a rocking response. The poster also mentioned important information that the film will be available in the IMAX format. As expected, it led to jubilation among the fans of Coolie. But it left the trade and industry in disbelief. The reason? IMAX hasn’t approved the release of Coolie yet, as confirmed by inside sources to Bollywood Hungama.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “It is common knowledge that War 2 and Coolie are releasing on the same day, August 14, and the former has inked an exclusive deal with IMAX. As per this deal, no other Indian film will be played in the IMAX version in India and key properties across the world during that period. Hence, the IMAX mention is shocking because Coolie’s IMAX release hasn’t been approved by the IMAX Corporation. And yet, they have gone ahead and prominently displayed the IMAX logo on the posters.”

A producer, on condition of anonymity, also remarked, “Those who have worked with IMAX are aware that they are extremely particular about how the word ‘IMAX’ should be mentioned. They also instruct the makers that if IMAX is mentioned on the posters, then other formats can’t be mentioned. The makers of Coolie, however, have added D-Box and 4DX mention as well. That’s not all. IMAX is extremely persistent that one can either state ‘Experience it in IMAX’ or ‘Filmed for IMAX’. The makers of Coolie, meanwhile, have printed ‘Watch it in IMAX’, which also probably goes against the IMAX mandate. It remains to be seen how the IMAX head honchos react to this development.”

Why you might still get to watch Coolie in IMAX

A South-based trade source, however, said, “Now that Coolie makers have mentioned it, it makes it clear that their film will be released in IMAX. Or else, why would they mention it? Maybe, they are in talks already for it. But yes, before everything is locked, they shouldn’t have jumped the gun.”

He added, “Either the makers will convince IMAX to let Coolie release in the IMAX theatres. Or else, they’ll play the non-IMAX version of Coolie in the IMAX cinemas, especially in the Southern markets.”

The producer source, meanwhile, said, “But will Yash Raj Films allow that, especially when the deal for exclusive IMAX release of War 2 is in place? Hence, expect a lot of fireworks in the days to come.”

Besides Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan, Coolie also stars Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj and others. It is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. As for War 2, it features Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR and is helmed by Ayan Mukerji.
